Dimitar Petkov (viola)
Dimitar Petkov, a Bulgarian violist, has performed in recitals and chamber music concerts in Bulgaria, Greece, Germany, Italy, Turkey, and the United States. He received a BM and a MM from State Music Academy (Bulgaria). Mr. Petkov has served as Principal Viola of the Southwest Florida Philharmonic, the Spoleto Festival Orchestra in Spoleto, Italy, Newton Symphony Orchestra, Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra, and Kalistos Chamber Orchestra. Dimitar is the winner of the First Prize in Svetoslav Obretenov - Bulgarian National Music Competition; Second Prize winner in Mozart - Chamber Music Competition (Bulgaria), and winner of Longy School of Music Concerto Competition. In 2002, Dimitar graduated from Longy School of Music with an Artist Diploma in Viola Performance. Mr. Petkov performs with Boston Modern Orchestra Project and serves as Principal Viola of Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra. Dimitar teaches violin and viola at Phillips Exeter Academy, and maintains a private studio in Westford, MA. He also teaches Chamber Music at the New England Conservatory PREP and Music on the Hill Summer Camp. Dimitar Petkov serves as the Strings Coordinator for Claflin Hill Youth Symphony Orchestra, and is the Music Director of Claflin Hill Repertory Ensemble. He lives with his wife Krasi and their two children Emma and Martin.
